Google’s Plans for 2008

December 2, 2007 · No Comments

Google Apps is Google play to take a bite out of Microsoft’s biggest money maker: office. They’ve landed some business customers but, so far, nothing too shocking in terms of market share. They are however, slowly but surely, increasing their feature set, aiming especially at ‘collaboration’.

They have time, and luckily for them anything Google does is high profile so they’ll always have an early adopter audience. However I predict that soon enough, though maybe not in 2008, Google Apps features will reach a tipping point at which most business will start seeing it as a viable competitor for Microsoft Office.

Right now you might want to take a look at this story in which Google reveals some of its plans for Google Apps for the near future.

Google Reveals 2008 Plans For Google Apps: “Google is usually fairly tight lipped about future product releases. But they were surprisingly revealing about upcoming plans for Google Apps at an event in Ann Arbor earlier this week.”

Short on Storage, Long on Cycles

I went to the Future of Webapps conference in London a few weeks ago. Simon Wardley held an Awesome Presentation about how new things become common things and how this process will change the computing industry, but I missed it. Thankfully it’s now online, so we can all check it out. It’s about 30 minutes and a very worthwhile overview of what’s happing all around us.
