Yesterday I posted a small notes about the all new Safari 3.1 and why I won’t be using it. Then I received a comment from Doug Richardson, telling me he wrote a Del.icio.us plugin for Safari. Now let me tell you why I won’t be using that.
Reason one: it costs $10. Seriously. (”Get a license and get rid of that stupid reminder”). Well, maybe if you’re a serious Safari guy, you’re stuck with it. And it doesn’t sync, though you can upload your Safari bookmarks.
There is an alternative for the price of free called delicious2safari. It does sync your Safari bookmarks. It was last updated in 2006 though, so it may not work for you.
There’s also a few more generic OSX programs for delicious. They don’t integrate directly, though a smart applescripter could go a long way with that. They’re called Cocoalicious and Pukka. I like Cocoalicious myself and use it a lot for posting to Del.icio.us when I’m not in the browser.
But now for the meat of this post: why is the firefox plugin so cool and awesome. In short: I’ve never bookmarked so quickly and easily, and I’ve never found/recalled old bookmarks so quickly and easily.
Here’s why:
- A big, and easy to find “TAG” button that quickly allows you to post to delicious.
- Complete integration with the Del.icio.us database by suggesting tags that have already been used for this page. This really speeds up your posting.
- Perhaps most importantly, there is the del.icio.us side bar. It features a great search function that works instantaneously on your tags. So if you tag well, you will always find your bookmarks. After all, you made the bookmark so you could go there again.
- Also in the sidebar, you can order your bookmarks in different ways, like ‘last added’, ‘by site’, ‘most visited’, ‘last visited’. A great way to quickly get to your top used bookmarks, for instance.

Another reason to Get Firefox.
