So as of october 1st of 2007, I’m really not doing anything at all - at least nothing that’s making any money. I wasn’t going put a time limit on it (other than the financial one) but now, after about three months I find I’m completely ready to start.
So last week I started doing the rounds. Making some phone calls, sending out emails, going to the online spots to see if there are any interesting jobs out there.
And now this week are the first talks about jobs, projects. I’m up for a few other jobs. In short: life is starting up again.
I don’t think 3 months counts as a sabbatical though. Maybe a hiatus?
But for the time being I’m still going to try to enjoy the free time I have left before the next contract starts. So now I’m off to have lunch with a friend - while I still can!

Sounds good, Hans. This summer my husband was laid off and since I work but a few hours in a second-hand bookstore, we indulged in round after round of fun and games (when he wasn’t looking for a new job.)
Now that he’s working for the corporate world again, we’re no longer walking a tightrope across the financial abyss. Insurance pays for the dentist and annual check-ups. But oh how we miss all that playtime.

Yeah, I’m still hurting financially I must admit. But there’s really nothing like 3 months of doing nothing at all. Plus you sort start thinking going back to work isn’t even so bad. It would be a nice distraction.
